Minecraft is a completely different game, in my opinion. Survival mode especially, is more about, well, surviving in a hostile environment. There is little creativity involved when it comes to building good peices of architecture. Not saying that it's impossible to build awesome things in Minecraft, there are several awesome servers that are better than any Eden map, but this is mostly due to the large following Minecraft has, and the ability to build in mutiplayer.
Creative mode in Minecraft is not just blocks, as it is in eden. There is redstone, fences, lighting, mobs, doors, signs, and a crapload more to make things easier. In Eden you have way more freedom with the blocks, but none of the toys. Eden is more a test of creativity, whereas Minecraft, while still testing one's creativity, is a lot more about simply rebuilding things that already exist.
Also the fact that you can paint in eden, makes the number of available blocks number several hundred.
Minecraft is for fun, Eden is for building stuff. Also, come 2.0, I think Eden will completely blow Minecraft out of the water in the Creative aspect.
Both games are amazing, and shouldn't really be compared to each other, similar to how one shouldn't compare CoD to Halo.
TLDR: Both games are awesome for different reasons.
Show them all the fun things you can do with ice ramps. I think they'd be more interested if they saw a huge world or a roller coaster so try downloading one of the big worlds to show them. If not they're probably stubborn
